There are always certain things that Disney is known for doing exceptionally well–providing amazing worlds and experiences that pull you into another time and place, amazing shows, great customer service and food. And the food at Disney’s Aulani Resort was NO exception. I wish I could have tried every single item on their menus but alas my time and my pants size begged to differ. So I would like to introduce my top 5 must-eats at Disney’s Aulani!
1. Loaded Nachos | Off The Hook Bar
This deliciously perfect poolside snack was a pile of tortilla chips, ground beef, salsa, sour cream, beans, olives, cheese, and other yummy fixings that made it a great shareable lunch. Especially with a big family like ours, it was an easy money saver and easy to have delivered to us while we were lounging at the pool.
2. Pina Colada with Dole Whip Treat | Little Opihi’s Beachside Kiosk
Being a veteran of Disney Parks, I have had my fair share of Dole Pineapple Whips but believe me when I tell you that this version of this sweet treat is my favorite! It features half of the great sweet pineapple whip that we all love and half pina colada drink which adds a great coconut flavor to sort of mellow out the sweet flavor. For a person that isn’t a huge fan of coconut, I could eat this treat over and over!
3. Truffle Mac & Cheese | ‘Ama ‘Ama
The last time I had really good truffle mac & cheese was with my Disney Sisters, Jaycee and Katelyn, at the Yachtsman's Steakhouse in Disney’s Yacht Club hotel in Walt Disney World so this was a great and delicious trip down memory lane. ‘Ama ‘Ama restaurant is the only upscale eatery at Disney Aulani and its menu does not disappoint especially the truffle mac & cheese. When I paired it with the grilled prawns, let’s just say that I was a VERY happy camper, especially since I got engaged to my sweetheart right after the dinner!!
4. Character Breakfast Buffet | Makahiki
I am a big sucker for character breakfasts at Disney so of course we had to do one the first full day that we were at the resort! First, we started off with meeting the boss man, Mickey Mouse, and showing off our shaka sign (which in Hawaiian means hang loose). Then we got seated inside where we got to meet with Mickey’s other pals like Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto. Most Disney breakfast buffets do not disappoint but this one was especially great for all of the unique offerings to cater to Disney’s many international guests. You can dine on fresh pineapple, papaya, mango, strawberries, made-to-order omelets, lox with yummy toasted bagels, biscuits and gravy, and of course Mickey Mouse waffles! (There were also chocolate and red velvet waffles with Mator and Iron Man on them!)
5. Mickey Ears Shave Ice | Papalua Shave Ice Snack Shop
Last but not least, the famous Mickey Ears Shave Ice! I had seen so many posts about this adorable treat all over social media so I could not wait to get my hands on my own mini Mickey. The shave ice flavors were to die for with original flavors like coconut, grape, and cherry but also had exotic flavors like passionfruit, guava, and green tea. You can find shave ice stands all over the Hawaiian Islands but there is nothing like Mickey ears on top to make your shave ice a more magical treat!
