Release Dates, New Restaurants, New Shows... Oh My!

What a whirlwind of a week for announcements, the Disney Gods have blessed us greatly. I have been not so patiently waiting for Disney World to have some of these new additions to open. With so many closing announcements, this week took a much needed turn to opening announcements. Here are a few of the exciting things happening at the Walt Disney World Resort.

First up, a new character dining is headed to Trattoria al Forno for breakfast. This restaurant is located at The BoardWalk Resort. It will have a new breakfast menu to be announced. It will include “adventurous couples” referring to Flynn and Rapunzel as well as Ariel and Eric as examples. Reservations are not available yet, but it’s looking like March 24th will be the opening day. How do I know this? Well.. I can make breakfast reservations for anytime up until March 23rd but after that, nothing is available. Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for the official opening date and then you can make reservations here at Trattoria al Forno.

Next up, we FINALLY got an opening date for Pandora: The World of Avatar. May 27th is the slated date, assuming we don’t keep with DAK’s record of delays. The area will include two rides; Na’vi River Journey and Avatar Flight of Passage. Two food options will be available as well, but not much is know about these locations yet. They are called Satu’li Canteen and Pongu Pongu. And it wouldn’t be Disney without a merchandise location, Windtraders will be sure to host incredible souvenirs. By the look of it, it should be an much needed addition and finally transform DAK into a full day park.

Right after the announcement for Pandora, we got a release year for Star Wars Land(s) in both WDW and DL, 2019! While that is still a while from now, it is exciting to have a timeline to follow. I was first surprised that they would be opening both within the same year, but it makes it easier to market it all at once. It will be interesting to see what differences the lands will have. It is sure to be a huge highlight in the parks once opened.

Animal Kingdom is full of surprises lately, Rivers of Light is set to officially debut on February 17th. This announcement actually caught me off guard. I have a friend who works at DAK; she said after watching the cast preview it had a lot of changes needing to be made before it was ready. It is only on showing on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday for now. The schedule will change mid-March and again during the summer season, so be sure to plan around the days it is actually showing. The show runs about 15 minutes in length and can be booked as a FastPass+ or a dining package.

And to round off the exciting few weeks we have had, we end on a bittersweet note.  Wishes will come to an end with a final show on May 11th. It is being replaced with a new show called Happily Ever After. While we all feel the sting of this loss, I’m hopeful for this show! And even more hopeful that it means a new nighttime parade is on its way. Disney Parks Blog posted a short clip of the music as a preview, it really sounds incredible. I’m sure we will all grow to love this show just like we did the last 13 years for Wishes.

What are you most excited to experience from all these announcements?

As a little girl, I went to Disneyland a few times, but my true love of Disney sparked my freshman year of college. I had the chance to do a quick weekend trip to Disneyland with two friends. During this trip, I fell completely back in love with the entirety of the Walt Disney Company. It was then a few months later, my family ventured to the opposite coast and visited WDW. Here I met a CP, who inspired me to start my own Disney Journey. A few years later, I can’t get enough of Disney (ask anyone who knows me)!

I have been extremely blessed to become a Disneyland AP holder, Walt Disney World AP holder, go on a Disney Cruise, and visit Hong Kong Disneyland. In 2018, I will be visiting Disneyland Paris. I plan on eventually visiting Tokyo Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland.

I love all things Disney food, Disney merch, and Disney entertainment. You can usually find me in the park, drinking a coke and waiting for a show or parade. If you ever see me, be sure to say hello! I love making new Disney Friends.
