How to Interact with Disney Characters

Something I noticed as a PhotoPass Photographer at Walt Disney World, was that many guests who visited Disney characters would walk up, get an autograph book signed, take a photo, and walk away. That was it! I worked with characters nearly every day, and this was the norm.

Does this sound like what you, your family, friends, squad do? If you answered yes, then honey, you are doing it all wrong!

Because there are so many guests that want to meet the many characters at the Disney Parks, time with them is pretty short. The average time a guest spends with a character is less than one minute. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be memorable and fun! Characters are always ready to play with the guests and may need a simple prodding to do so.

Character Meeting Advice

Before I give a list of ideas on how you can interact with specific characters, let’s go through some common etiquette tips you should follow when going to Meet-and-Greets with the Disney Parks characters:

Be prepared: Make sure you have your camera or phone out, your autograph book out (if you’re into that), and your bag ready to be set down.

Let them do their job: Character Attendants or Entertainment Hosts know each characters needs, and work with them individually to make sure they are prepared to meet you! They also are there to make sure that guests follow simple rules of etiquette.

Be kind to characters: I’m not kidding. Talk to all of them! Even to the fur characters, they are more expressive than you’d expect. I know it can feel intimidating, but they are wanting to be your friend!

Don’t cross the line: No inappropriate touching, grabbing or language.

Erica

Hiya pals! I’m Erica. And I am probably the most excited about this blog (okay, but really I’m so thrilled you’re here)! I’ve been thinking about starting something like this for a few years, because I just want to have a Disney love fest all the freaking time.

Growing up, my family wasn't too big on TV, since all we wanted to watch were Disney movies over and over again! It was always a treat when mom and dad would announce that we were going to Disneyland! We’d go for one day, one park only. Though this made each trip quick, it made each one so special. Before my DCP, I’d only been to Disneyland 5 times. All those vacations are treasured memories for me. I believe it’s because of this that going to a Disney park, even now after having gone many times, continues to be incredibly sweet to me.

I am huge lover of Disney films, yes as an adult without children of my own. I love them for their positive messages, their catchy music (oh, the music!!), their oh-so-quotable humor, and their amazing examples of good vs. evil.

Okay well “adventure is waiting.” See you out there!
