Everyone knows that Disney Parks are known for two things: magical entertainment and awesome, immersive rides. However, with so many things to do and experience, it is almost impossible to hit every single ride, show, and character experience all in one day or vacation. So tough choices have to be made and often, a lot of the same rides are skipped over and forgotten. But in today’s post, I want to bring those forgotten rides back into the spotlight and hopefully entice you to check them out on your next Disney parks trip!
Let's start off with Disneyland!
Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln | Main Street U.S.A.
This is a great indoor ride with the temperatures are soaring outside and you need a break for your aching feet. It features a look into the life of President Abraham Lincoln and how he lead the nation through our greatest conflict in our history: the Civil War. Seeing as Lincoln was Walt Disney’s favorite president, this gives me a nice insight into the wonderful mind of Uncle Walt and his love of this legendary president.
Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride | Fantasyland
This attraction often, because of its location in Fantasyland, is written off as the quintessential slow, kid-friendly and therefore a waste of the fast-paced guest’s time. However, I can assure you that this attraction is anything but slow! It features a heart-pounding race through the crazy misadventures of Mr. Toad as he gets into trouble above and below the surface of the world.
Casey Jr. Train | Fantasyland
This little choo-choo train gives you one of the best views above Fantasyland as you can get as you chug up hills and down into valleys all while riding in the cutest train cars. You get views of Matterhorn Mountain, the adorable miniature villages of the Storybook Canal boats, and nose to nose with Dumbo as he flies through the skies.
Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk Through | Fantasyland
This hidden gem literally in the heart of Sleeping Beauty Castle is one of my favorite forgotten rides for the simple reason that Sleeping Beauty aka Princess Aurora is my favorite Disney princess. This attraction has recently been refurbished to be a visually beautiful telling of the story of Princess Aurora while you walk up, down, and through the inside of the Sleeping Beauty Castle. Also a perfect attraction to get out of the heat and away from the crowds of Fantasyland.
Tom Sawyer Island | Frontierland
This little island in the middle of the Rivers of America seems like a random addition to the scape of Frontierland but the incorporation of the Pirates of the Caribbean to this attraction makes this attraction an active and exciting experience for adults and kids alike.
Davy Crockett Canoes | Frontierland
Not to be missed because of its unique way of traveling around the Rivers of America around New Orleans Square and Frontierland and yes you do actually sit in a canoe and paddle around the Rivers of America.
Disney’s California Adventure Park
Golden Zephyr | Paradise Pier
Another of those attractions that gives an exciting view from above the sights of Paradise Pier and adds thrill as it swings you completely over the waters of Paradise Lagoon. Try not to look down too long!
Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue | Hollywood Backlot
If you love Mike, Sulley, and Boo as much as my family does than you cannot miss out on this little corner of Hollywood Backlot as you zoom through Monstropolis in a taxicab while trying to take Boo back to her home. We love this ride because again offers a chance to rest your aching feet on an indoor, cool ride that usually has a little to no wait.
Turtle Talk with Crush | Hollywood Backlot
Turtle Talk is one of the most interactive attractions I have ever experience and yet it remains a forgotten ride! I mean Crush actually talks back and interacts with you! A giant sea turtle talks to you and teaches you some totally awesome speaks of the turtle. So go on over to give Crush some fin and noggin dude!
Now let’s go to the east coast for our Walt Disney World Resort Attractions...
Carousel of Progress | Tomorrowland
All the Sisters will tell you that this is one of my favorite forgotten attractions at Magic Kingdom for the plain and simple reasons that is it in a dark, cool, moving room that is the perfect place to NAP... never thought I would say that in a post huh? But seriously this ride is such a cool look at how technology has changed since the turn of the century and was the brainchild of Walt Disney while he was alive.
Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor | Tomorrowland
This another of those rides that I don’t get why it is so forgotten because it is literally a hilarious comedy show for FREE. While waiting to get into the theatre, you can send in your jokes for the monsters to perform to add to the list of hilarous jokes in the show. Sometimes in the craziness and stress that often accompanies trips to Walt Disney World it is nice to relax and get it all out with a good laugh!
Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse | Adventureland
This giant attraction and its counterpart at Disneyland Park (Tarzan’s Treehouse) are the perfect to run up and down a giant tree and get a great view of the park down below.
Disney's Animal Kingdom
Rafiki’s Planet Watch | Africa
This whole area of AK is skipped over a lot of the time but whenever you get the chance to see a giant lion being operated on or the chance to see monkeys swinging through the trees TAKE IT! This area of the park is a great way to get away from the busyness of the park and look at some adorable animals up close. It also features a train ride that allows you to rest your aching feet. It also includes a fun, short train ride to the area.
Great Movie Ride | Hollywood Boulevard
This attraction used be hidden behind the giant Sorcerer Mickey hat that dominated the Hollywood Studios skyline but now that it has been removed, hopefully this will be less forgotten. The Great Movie Ride offers guests the chance to literally step into the movies and into some iconic movie scenes and participate in their action and for someone who loves movies as much as I do, this is a dream come true!
Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros | Mexico Pavilion
Another typical Disney dark boat ride, but one without a wait. And in one of the coolest buildings hosted around the World Showcase. It is a cute trip through Mexico while you watch the Caballeros experience it themselves (aka try to stay out of trouble).
Ellen’s Energy Adventure | Future World
The best way to describe this attraction is a 45-minute... educational experience. The best part about it is the fact that Ellen DeGeneres is the host of the ride. But in all reality, you are learning about the energy in the universe... for 45 minutes. The reason we suggest this ride is because it never has a wait, it is cool and dark, and it allows you to take a quick power nap in the park. It is very reasonable to say that this ride will be taking its final journey very soon.
