Epcot will always be my favorite park, next to Magic Kingdom of course. When working at Disney, I would usually spend a majority of time in Epcot since I could walk into the park from work. I could easily run in and grab a sandwich from France during lunch or meet a character before work that day. But one of the best things about this park is the festivals it hosts each year.
From March 1st till May 29th, the International Flower and Garden Festival is hosted throughout Epcot. The idea behind this special event is to focus on the “flower and garden” aspect of the park and translate that into topiaries and delicious food. During this time they also have concerts called “Garden Rocks” that bring in various artists to perform. There is quite a lot to do during this time, but I am going to focus on the food.
This year they hosted 15 outdoor kitchens throughout the world showcase. During my March visit, I made my way throughout these food booths and tried a few of the dishes. Being by myself, I ended up full quicker than I thought. But I was able to try a handful of booths, here are my thoughts on the items I ate.
My first stop of course was the Pineapple Promenade located at the entrance to the world showcase. The famed “Violet Lemonade” is available here and is one of the most instagrammed food items available during this festival. I also ordered the Spicy Hot Dog with Pineapple Chutney and Plantain Chips. I am usually not a hot dog person, but I loved this dish. It was the perfect amount of spicy and sweet. When paired with the Violet Lemonade, it was a great meal.
Next up I headed to Cider House where I ordered the Freshly Baked Lemon Scone with Creme Fraiche and Mixed Berries (Vegan and Gluten Free). The scone was warm and had a great consistency. When paired with the creme fraiche and berries, it had a sweet and tart flavor combo. I would definitely order this again.
As I moved my way through the countries, I couldn’t pass up Hanami in Japan. Here is another famed dish, the Frushi. I also ordered the Beef Teriyaki Udon. While I loved the Frushi as usual, I was not a fan of the Udon. The noodles were a bit rubbery and the flavor seemed to lack greatly. While I will always stop for the Frushi, I would pass on the Udon for any future trips.
At this point I had plenty of desserts, I headed towards The Smokehouse in America. Here I ordered the Beef Brisket Burnt Ends Hash with White Cheddar Fondue and Pickled Jalapenos as well as the Warm Chocolate Cake with Bourbon-Salted Caramel Sauce and Spiced Pecans. The brisket was a little cold and a bit fatty, but the flavor was decent. The hash was yummy and the cheese paired well. I would consider ordering this again. The real winner here was the cake! It was a delicious flavor profile of dark chocolate, sweet caramel, and the salty edge. I would order this in a heartbeat!
At this point I was pretty much full, though there were so many dishes I still wanted to try. My final stop was at the new Berry Basket at the entrance of the world showcase. Here I ordered my final drink of the day, the Twinings Green Tea Berry Mint Julep non-alcoholic version. This drink was refreshing and perfect for a hot Florida day. The berry mixed well with the mint julep flavor and I would order about 3 more of these next time.
